OUTREACH
Studies show that the general public has a narrow view of what a scientist is, does, and looks like! As a scientist, I believe it is my responsibility to share the findings and excitement of science with a wide audience. For that reason, I actively seek opportunities to present my research results not only at scientific conferences, but also during grower and industry meetings, field days, and through media outlets. These opportunities also allow me to gather the information that is useful to develop research immediately relevant to the grower and industry needs.
Moreover, I am motivated to encourage young people to aspire and ignite their interest in science, and promote the many academic and professional opportunities in scientific research. To accomplish this, I actively participate in educational and outreach programs aimed at fostering scientific interest and inquiry among local students, including those from minority and under-resourced populations. Ultimately, these efforts contribute to building a diverse pipeline of academically prepared and college-ready students. |
