Otter Plant Doctor
I am a Plant Pathologist in the Department of Biology & Chemistry. My research interests center on investigating the biology, ecology and management of plant-associated microbiomes, with the ultimate goal of developing practical applications for enhancing plant and soil health, and promoting biological suppression of plant pathogens. My goal as an educator is to spark enthusiasm for agriculture, and specifically how plant pathogens impact agricultural production. In the classroom, I strive to make the learning process and concepts interesting, engaging, and ultimately helping all my students apply the concepts learned in the classroom to real-life situations. Before coming to the US, I worked growing and selling fresh produce, and later, as a crop consultant to the coffee industry in Costa Rica. Education B.Sc. in Agronomy, Universidad de Costa Rica. M.S. in Plant Pathology, Iowa State University Ph.D. in Plant Pathology (minor in Entomology), UW-Madison. NSF Postdoctoral Fellowship, University of Minnesota.
